A 3D scanning technique like structured light scanning was used to capture the
geometry of the above piston as a 3D point cloud and mesh from the BCU racing formula
student car engine which was then Converted into raw point cloud data and a usable 3D
mesh format (such as STL and OBJ). Solidworks 2022 was used to Inspect and clean up the
mesh, remove any unwanted artefacts, holes, and inaccuracies, also to ensure the mesh is
watertight and free from self-intersections.
